FarmLink Spitfire Wheat Update June 2015

FarmLink Spitfire Wheat Update

Summary

“The Spitfire wheat in paddock 25 was sown on May 10th, soil surface conditions were dry at this time so the seed depth target was 3-4 cm in the hope to reach more moisture. There was a good germination rate and with very little weed burden due to the 2014 spray program keeping weed numbers low and a good knock down spray at pre sowing. Conditions continue to be drier than we would like and periods of frost are slowing down growth rates. An early nitrogen application may be an option if a favourable rain event occurs. There appears to be no insect or disease pressure at present.” Tony Pratt – 23rd June 2015.
